ARDA grants RU funds to expand the use of “Azolla” to replace chemical fertilizers to add organic matter to the soil.

On July 17, 2023, the Agricultural Research Development Agency (Public Organization), or ARDA, hold hand Department of Agriculture Extension, and the Department of Agriculture, launched a project to expand production and use Azolla to reduce production costs for farmers to able to produce and utilize Azad in agriculture efficiently at the meeting room 7, 5th floor, Building 1, Department of Agriculture Extension.

Azolla is a type of small floating fern like a biological nitrogen fertilizer plant because there is a nitrogen fixation process of blue-green algae living in the leaf cavity of Azolla. Azolla is useful for replacing or reducing the use of nitrogen chemical fertilizers. Department of Agriculture recommends farmers use Azolla (Azolla microphylla), which characterize large size and rapid reproduction. The Department of Agricultural Extension prepared a proposal for a project to expand production and use Azolla to reduce production costs for farmers. ARDA grants  RU: Research Utilization funds or utilization of research results and innovations To provide farmers with knowledge and understanding to produce and use Azolla to effectively reduce production costs. Azolla will help farmers reduce the cost of using nitrogen fertilizer add organic matter to the soil make the soil fertile improve the soil structure in the long term to take care of the restoration of soil resources in line with the government's BCG policy.

In this regard, expand production and use Azolla to reduce production costs and extend the results to officials and farmers who are members of the Provincial Soil Management Center (CCD) at the provincial level. Outstanding to the pilot communities in 9 provinces, namely Saraburi, Samut Songkhram, Rayong, Kalasin, Surin, Phang Nga, Phatthalung, Kamphaeng Phet, and Phayao. More than 300 target farmers focus on hopes to reduce the cost of chemical fertilizers by at least 10 percent and the soil resources in the community are preserved and restored to be more fertile.
